AZ Medellín was born from a simple idea – to make the Medellín experience easier, safer, and more enjoyable for travelers, expats, and digital nomads.
When our founder first arrived in Medellín from the UK in 2023, he knew very little about the city or how to navigate the community and culture. Because he didn’t speak Spanish, he quickly found that seemingly simple tasks like bank visits, important appointments, and even local transportation were exceedingly difficult. But when he looked for help online, he struggled to find trustworthy, bilingual support for his needs. There were tour guides, sure, and large professional security companies, but nothing that provided personalized, on-demand assistance for someone like him.
The longer he stayed in Medellín, the more glaring the issue got. As he settled into the city, he began to dip his toe into its famous nightlife and dating scenes, but he could not shake the feeling that he had to be constantly looking over his shoulder for danger and worrying about potential scams. On top of this, once he’d seen all of Medellín’s incredible tourist attractions, he felt a strong desire to begin to experience the hidden gems that only locals are privy to, but again, he did not know where to start.
If he was having these problems, he realized, then surely others were as well. It was a revelation which inspired him to start AZ Medellín.
The first step was bringing together a team which could provide anything and everything that tourists, expats, and digital nomads might need. For months he searched with a discerning eye, gathering an elite group of local Colombians who had lived in Medellín their entire lives, and expats from the US and Europe with Colombian roots. Together, they combined years of experience in professional security, tourism, and client care, with a deep understanding of daily life in Medellín.
Today, AZ Medellín provides reliable, bilingual support to clients across the city. What sets us apart is that we are not merely a security company or a tour service.
